Reads the Story. Not Just the Signal.

The EML250-ID is Tempo's professional-grade RFID marker locator — the first tool in Eastcom's marker locator lineup that reads and writes data directly to and from a buried marker, not just detects it. Point it at an OmniMarker-ID from up to 5 feet away (or a Spike Marker-ID from up to 3.3 feet) and it pulls the marker's unique serial number along with any custom data written to it: asset type, install date, material, service history, or anything else your team wants logged in the field.

It still does everything a standard marker locator does — passively locating any industry-standard marker ball across all 9 frequencies — so crews aren't carrying two tools. Every read and write is automatically logged, and the EML250-ID pairs with the Locator Link Mobile App to push that data straight into a GIS system or the cloud, with external GNSS support for precise positioning. For utilities and locating firms trying to turn "we marked it" into an actual asset record, this is the tool that closes that gap.

How It Works

The EML250-ID does two things a standard marker locator can't: it reads the unique ID stamped on an OmniMarker-ID or Spike Marker-ID, and it writes new information back onto that marker through the Locator Link app — notes, photos, keywords, and custom fields included. Passive marker balls without RFID still register normally, so a crew standardizing on the EML250-ID doesn't have to replace markers already in the ground.

Because the read/write log travels with the device and syncs through Locator Link, a locate technician in the field and a GIS analyst in the office are working off the same data — no separate paperwork, no re-keying serial numbers by hand.

Product Features

  • Reads unique serial number and custom-written data on OmniMarker-ID from up to 5 ft away, across 9 industry-standard frequencies
  • Reads unique serial number and custom-written data on Spike Marker-ID from up to 3.3 ft away
  • Read and write actions are automatically logged for traceability
  • Passively locates any industry-standard marker ball, RFID or not
  • Syncs with the Locator Link Mobile App for fast file transfer to GIS systems or the cloud
  • Compatible with external GNSS devices for precise positional mapping
  • Easy-to-read color LCD screen
  • Rugged build: IP65-rated antenna housing, IP55-rated upper chassis
  • Rechargeable battery, 10 hours typical run time

Locator Link App

The EML250-ID is built to work alongside Tempo's Locator Link Mobile App:

  • Build templates in Locator Link and push them straight to the EML250-ID
  • Scan an OmniMarker-ID's QR code to capture its serial number instantly
  • Attach notes and photos to any log entry
  • Use pre-built keyword sets to speed up data entry in the field

Who It's For

Built for teams that need more than a beep and a depth reading — municipal utilities tracking lead service line inventories, contract locating firms standardizing data across a fleet, and gas and electric utilities building out GIS-integrated asset records all get the same core benefit: a marker locator that hands off clean, structured data instead of a field notebook.

FAQs

Q: What's the difference between the EML250-ID and a standard marker locator?

A: A standard marker locator only tells you a marker is there. The EML250-ID reads and writes to RFID-enabled OmniMarker-ID and Spike Marker-ID markers, so it captures the marker's unique serial number and any custom asset data stored on it — not just its location.

Q: Does the EML250-ID still work with markers I already have in the ground?

A: Yes. It passively locates any industry-standard marker ball across all 9 frequencies, whether or not that marker has RFID capability. You don't have to replace existing markers to use it.

Q: How does data get from the EML250-ID into our GIS system?

A: Through the Locator Link Mobile App. It syncs read and write logs from the EML250-ID and transfers them to your GIS platform or cloud storage, and the unit also supports external GNSS devices for more precise positioning.

Q: How rugged is the EML250-ID for daily field use?

A: It's built for it — IP65-rated on the antenna housing and IP55-rated on the upper chassis, with a rechargeable battery rated for about 10 hours of typical use and an operating range down to -4°F.

Q: Can I read Spike Marker-ID markers with the same unit?

A: Yes. The EML250-ID reads OmniMarker-ID markers from up to 5 feet away and Spike Marker-ID markers from up to 3.3 feet, across the same 9 frequencies.
